Lita Richardson. Apparently director Sidra Smith is still attached to the project, although it is unknown whether the planned shooting location will still be Cleveland when and if production does start.
"Cleopatra Smiles" is one the movies in Nehst Studios' three-film slate that was announced a while back. Larry Meistrich applied for tax film credits for all three projects, but production start dates have been delayed a number of times. Meistrich has been pursuing public funding through the Cleveland Port Authority, the Cleveland City Council and Cuyahoga County. Both the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County have provided Nehst with loan guarantees of $1.15 million each.
Per the terms of the Port Authority’s bond issuance, “the equity contribution by Nehst is set at 55% and is made up of a cash contribution from Nehst to be made at closing. The notes to be issued by the Port Authority will fund 45% of the project. The notes will be secured in part, by a Film Production Tax Credit from the Ohio Department of Development being offered through the Ohio Film Office.” Independent sources have indicated that Nehst Studios currently has no private financing to apply to these film projects.
Meistrich has not responded to our numerous information requests concerning his film projects and the $250 million film fund listed on his Screentest.biz "pay-to-audition" website.
